Kate is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Washington DC and Virginia and a Registered, Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC). She received her M.A. in Art Therapy from The George Washington University. Her specialties include chronic medical illness, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Kate is also a mother and understands the unique challenges of raising a family and parenthood. Kate has completed a certification training in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International and specializes in supporting women (and their partners) through experiences around motherhood, including pregnancy, postpartum, grief, and loss.
Prior to founding Sage House Therapy, Kate spent several years providing care to pediatric hematology-oncology patients and their families at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC and New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell in New York City. She understands deeply the experience of living with chronic life-threatening illness and the impact it has on individuals and families. Kate has presented at numerous local and national conferences on her work with adults and children. Throughout her professional career, she has served on various boards, including as the President of the Washington DC Art Therapy Association (PATA). Kate's holistic approach combines art, play, sand tray, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and mindfulness with counseling. Clients describe Kate’s approach to therapy as genuine and warm while providing opportunities for reflection and growth.
